The nearby, revitalized South Congress Avenue, otherwise known as SoCo, adds to the character of the area with its many unusual shops, cozy eateries and revamped, period motels. Looking north from SoCo, Congress Avenue sweeps towards the capitol for a spectacular view. In March, 1.5 million Mexican Free-Tailed Bats come to roost underneath the Congress Avenue Bridge making it North America's largest urban bat colony. Viewing their nightly flight to feed has become an Austin tradition. On Town Lake, the area known as Auditorium Shores is the 54-acre arts and events park.
