Expanding out from what is known as the "Y" at Oak Hill is Outer Southwest. The city of Oak Hill, settled in the 1840's, crosses into the neighboring area to the south. Situated on the meadows and gentle hills are country homes on acreage lots, modest, suburban neighborhoods and ranches. This formerly strictly bucolic setting is quickly becoming a busy community. The heaviest growth is taking place in the eastern part of the area. Standard shopping amenities are convenient to this part of the area and less so to the outlying western region. A quick trip up Loop 1 is the closest major retail center is Barton Creek Mall. Recreational amenities in the area are limited.
